It’s simple, really. At HeadHouse Square, we only make exterior custom wood shutters – and we make them to last. You’d be hard pressed to find a wood that’s more at home in the outdoors than Western Red Cedar.
Builders throughout the land consider Western Red Cedar to be one of the most versatile and durable of all building woods. And building codes nationwide agree. It lays flat and straight, with an even grain and consistent density, which all help it resist swelling, warping, cupping and twisting like virtually no other wood.
Western Red Cedar timbers are straight-grained, long in length, easy to cut and just plain easy to work with, in general. The wood has no “pitch” or “resin” in it so glue bonds well to it.
One of the best qualities of Western Red Cedar is the chemical composition of its fibers, which gives the wood natural resistance to deterioration, fungus and wood-damaging insects. In essence, Western Red Cedar is preserved wood – without the nasty chemical preservatives. Plus, it has a subtle, pleasing aroma.
All of this means that, when finished properly, your HeadHouse Square custom shutters can be counted on to adorn your home for decades to come. And that’s just the way our shuttersmiths like it.
