Strolling Historic Savannah, the Colonial Southern architecture is inescapable. As is the August heat. Easy to understand why there are so many louvered shutters. Comfort necessitated form. Every breeze was savored, especially the cooler ones. And the louvers let each flow freely. While these early “air conditioners” no longer serve that purpose, fortunately their style endures. For the record, we still use the louvereds we craft for ourselves – whether Traditional or Arch – to catch those soothing, cooling breezes. But then, we’re shutter purists.
