It is arguably the most decorative piece of hardware that adorns your shutters. Many of our pieces have stories behind them. We didn’t create the story. History did that. But we’re familiar with the stories behind the names. Some pieces are known for the visual image they portray, while others are known for the areas they were indigenous to in years past, and still are today. The English Rat Tail, for example, was an early tieback that was popular in Colonial days. It was forged and imported from England (of course!) to the various American ports. What we now call the Soldier tieback was also popular during Colonial days.  It takes its name from a Horatio Hornblower novel where the main character remarked how the tiebacks look “lined like a row of soldiers”. The Beacon Hill tieback traces its roots to the Beacon Hill area of Boston, though it was found in other American cities. As time progressed, these tiebacks and others like them spread throughout the different cities and colonies, picking up local flair as the different craftsmen of the day made them their own. Mounting the tieback has several options. It can be as simple as a lag mount directly inserted into the structure, or a plate mount to help secure it into the structure. The tieback can also be mounted to your window sill, which adds a distinct look to your shutters that no other mounting option can. While it may seem that there are many choices below, there are many other unique and historic tiebacks that can be custom forged.
