Exterior Shutters FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Headhouse Square's Exterior Shutters

How do I order Headhouse Square custom shutters?

Call us toll-free at 888.631.8191 and speak to one of our Shuttersmiths. You’ll want to look at the Shutters section first to determine your shutter style and other particulars.

How long will it take to get my shutters?

The typical turnaround time for Headhouse Square custom shutters is about 5 weeks from receipt of your order. Remember, your shutters are carefully crafted from scratch according to your specifications, which takes some time. But it’ll be well worth the wait.

Can I place an order online?

You can order a catalog as well as hardware online by using our convenient shopping cart. However, since your shutters are made specifically to order for your house and your house alone, orders for our custom shutters can’t be placed online. Your shutters will be one-of-a-kind, so it's very important that we work directly with you to make sure you get exactly what you want.

How do I know which shutter style is right for my home?

The best place to start is with your own personal taste. If historical and architectural accuracy is important to you, it could be fun and informative to research your home’s architectural style. Books such as "Historic Houses (American Country)" from Time-Life, and "Old Houses (A National Trust for Historic Preservation Book)" can be very helpful. Also, you can take some photos of your house, email them to us, then speak with one of our Shuttersmiths about the right shutters to choose for an authentic period look.

Can Headhouse Square match my existing shutters?

In a word, Yes. All we need is one of your shutters to use as a guide. Just call to talk specifically about how we can help you in this area: 888.631.8191.

Does Headhouse Square make interior shutters?

No, sorry. We make only custom exterior wood shutters. It is our one and only specialty.

Do you paint your shutters?

Yes! We offer our shutters in your choice of Grade A natural cedar, primed, or painted. While the choice is yours alone, we do recommend that, at minimum, you have us prime your shutters. As part of that process, we “component prime,” which means we apply the primer to all the component parts prior to assembly which gives them complete coverage and improved resistance to the elements. We also use a special primer/paint combination expressly formulated for our controlled finishing process. Finally, you have a full spectrum of colors available from which to choose, or we will color-match to your sample.

Are shutters difficult to install?

Shutter installation can be a DIY project, provided you are a reasonably accomplished do-it-yourselfer. Because of the size of exterior shutters and the probable need to use a ladder, we recommend working with an able helper. Installing shutters isn’t overly complicated, but if you don’t have some basic carpentry skills, you should consult with a professional. Our Shuttersmiths will be more than happy to help you arrive at the right decision regarding installation.

Does Headhouse Square install shutters?

We do not install shutters. However, our Shuttersmiths are available by telephone to provide assistance to you or your contractor. If you are looking for a contractor, we will likely have some contacts we would be happy to pass along.

What kind of warranty does Headhouse Square have on its shutters? Its hardware?

We offer the industry's one and only Life-of-Ownership guarantee. (Please click here to see the full guarantee.) Quite simply, when we prime and paint your shutters, and they are installed by a factory-authorized contractor, we guarantee them for as long as you own your home. Our hardware is unconditionally guaranteed for one year.

Can I visit Headhouse Square?

Sure. We’d welcome a visit. Just call us and we’ll give you directions to our shop.

How do you ship your shutters?

That depends on the size of your order. For small to mid-sized orders, we use UPS Standard shipping. For larger orders (or very large shutters) we choose a common carrier.
